Dear Meowmeow,

Yesterday was my second time to teach on the stage and it was also Christmas Day! I was so excited that I chatted with my friends about the teaching all the way from the dorm to the classroom. I hope she didn’t find me annoying. Since we were the first group again this week, I started to prepare for the teaching as soon as I got to the classroom. I recalled the mistakes we had made last time and I really wanted to do a good job this time. At the beginning, we as usual played a song to draw the students’ attention but we change it into a pop song in Spanish. The singer was really handsome and some girls even fell for him. After that, we reviewed the vocabulary we taught last week and asked them to repeat after us. They all did a pretty great job, so we soon got to the self-introduction part. To our surprise, some of them took out the work sheets that we gave them last week and practiced with the instructions on the sheets. That was the moment I felt the true pleasure of being a pleasure. Teaching in a cram school could only bring me some experiences of not messing up with the kids in junior high school. After they had practiced for five minutes, we asked them to introduce themselves to each other. In the process, we walked down the stage and listened to them to see if they really understood the things we taught. Also, we tried our best to correct their pronunciation which I thought of as a crucial point. After the practice, we prepared a couple of games to play with the students. We were actually testing them through the games we designed. The first game required quick reaction and accurate pronunciation. The students were divided into two teams. We showed them a word card once and saw which person could say the word or phrase out loud first. Both teams were eager to win the first prize. Next, we had the Q&A game. We would show them a card with a question on it once and saw who get to answer it first. This game was a bit harder than the first one, so their performance was relatively poor. At the end of the game, everyone was happy because the result was a tie. This experience not only brought me a lot of joy but also taught me a lesson. I learned that it wasn’t easy to always have the students’ pay attention to us. They sometimes phubbed during the teaching but we had nothing to do to them. The only thing we could do was to go down the stage and try to dawn their attention back to class. When the school bell rang, I felt much relive and wished everyone a merry Christmas. My friends and I even played the Christmas song in Spanish all the way from the classroom to the restaurant where we had lunch. It was really a memorable Christmas!
