Entry 10

 Dear Meowmeow,

Yesterday was our last English teaching class. That made me feel pretty sad because I really enjoyed the atmosphere in this class where all my classmates could teach and learn together. We’ve done so many things in this class. We listened to a lecture, had a role-playing game, and most importantly, we learned the way to teach and be taught. Also, I think that the teaching process actually enhanced the bond between my teammates and I. We hung out more after the discussion of the teaching and learning. We went to the library together in order to study Spanish and laughed at one another when someone had a weird or wrong pronunciation. Those trivial things turned out to be the most memorable things. At the very beginning of the class, I was a little bit worried because there seemed to be a lot of work to do in this class and I already registered many other courses. Looking at the syllabus, I felt a lot of stress and doubted if I could make it to the end. Thanks to Professor CC and our teaching assistants, I had more space to arrange the schedule of the assignments I should turn in. After one or two classes, I found that it wasn’t as difficult as I thought. I started to get interested in the novel ways of teaching and I actually put them into practice at work. The professor not only taught us the means of teaching but also gave us some advice on the attitude we should have as a student. The words were so profound and I would really like to tell my students the same thing in the future. She said that when a teacher is standing on the stage, he or she could actually see everything down the stage. It means that if we are phubbing or chatting, the teacher is actually aware of all these things. However, whether to scold the students or not totally depends on the teacher. I remember that when we were preparing for the night of English, some people in our class were so busy that they stayed up late every night. As a result, they often dozed off in class, but the teacher never said a word about it. It was really considerate of the professor to let off all those people. Professor CC gave me some inspiration as well. Her teaching methods were just so different from those of other teachers. When we were having the midterm meeting, we thought we were going to be examined by a row of hard questions. Nonetheless, the teacher started to chat with us and tried to see if we understood everything she had taught in class. She discussed the test questions with us and gave us a lot of hints if we didn’t really know the exact answer. The most important thing is that she was trying to make us revise our mistakes instead of using difficult questions to challenge us. I’m really happy that I took the course and I look forward to learn more about teaching in the future!

Dear Meowmeow,      Yesterday was my first time to teach on the stage. Although I have already been working as a mentor at a cram school for one and a half years, this experience was totally different from that. At first, I thought it would be as simple as a regular presentation. However, when my teammates and I were preparing for the teaching, I actually felt a lot of pressure and got really nervous. We started from the most basic vocabulary and tried to recall the ways we ourselves learned the language. We surfed the Net to see if there were some interesting videos or songs to show the students since we know how important it was to draw students’ attention at the very beginning. As a result, we picked a song introducing all the alphabets in Spanish. It was actually really funny, so we sang it again and again. Entry 3

  Dear Meowmeow, Yesterday, my teammates and I started to learn Spanish. We had lunch together after the English teaching class and went to the Dahsian Library. We reserved a discussion room and we sat in a circle to start our learning journey. Our learning process began with the alphabets. We listened to a cute alphabetic song and we soon picked up the pronunciation of all the alphabets. Next, we started to learn about some basic rules in Spanish. For example, the stress of a word should be in the second syllable from the back. Unlike English, Spanish has its own way to extinguish the stress. What’s more, all the vocabulary in Spanish has two forms, male and female. When the subject is a female (no matter a person or an animal), the verb has to end with an “a.” A lot of South American and Spanish female’s names end with an “a, “too. Entry 4

  Dear Meowmeow, It was my birthday last Saturday! I really had a great time during the whole week. On my birthday, there was also a big event called Baochung Tea Festival. We had prepared for it for two weeks and we all wore the same clothes that day. The purpose of the event was to give some senior high school students or their parents some advice and instructions about our department. Many of my classmates played the role of instructors, while I was dancing on the stage as the performers. Those people were even trained to introduce our courses in English since there might be some foreigners. When I was preparing to go up the stage, all of my friends started to sing happy birthday song to me. That was really a wonderful experience. When the festival finally came to an end, my friends and I went to a restaurant near Taipei 101 and had a nice dinner together.
